One of my new year’s resolution is to try giving more personal gifts with meaning to friends and family during times of celebration such as birthdays. I’m tired of just shelling out money to my nieces and nephews. Not that they don’t appreciate the gift, I just feel like it has no meaning. It makes birthdays just another boring financial transaction between family members. Instead of taking the easy route and purchasing gift cards or giving cash, I plan on making gifts.
Until now, I haven’t told anyone about my new year’s resolution so I was fairly intrigued by my friend, Ange of all Trades who posted this cool status on her Facebook page:
“Pay It Forward 2011: I promise to send something handmade to the first 5 people who leave a comment here. They must in turn post this and send something they make to the first 5 people who comment on their status.*The rules are that it must be handmade by you and it must be sent out to your 5 people sometime in 2011″
What a neat idea! I quickly commented on my friend’s status and now I’m trying pay it forward too.
Sadly I’m feeling a tiny bit uncool and unloved by my Facebook friends. Nobody wants to pay it forward. So far, I have one friend who wants to receive something handmade by me. My crafty ego is deflating very quickly…
So I’m going to implore to you non Facebook friends to comment of this blog post if you are keen on helping me pay it forward and spreading the joy of handmade gifts during 2011.

Yay! I’m so excited that you’ve joined fellow craft crazies like me and Ange! Maybe I’ll try and figure out that wooden wine rack that you showed me awhile back!
Just found your blog from Ana White (I’m finishing her dress-up storage for my daughter today!) – love your ideas
If I’m not too late to the party, I’d love to Pay it Forward with you. I saw this on facebook as well: I only got one or two friends interested there, but I love the idea.
Hi Sara! I Love Ana White! My to do list has grown immensely since discovering her blog. I wish I had time to build faster. I would love to send you something handmade – you’re my number 5! Yay!
