A few weeks ago I wrote about my latest Billy bookcase makeover project. Yes, that’s right – we’re practically drowning in Billy bookcases here! To be honest, this post is very anti-climactic. I finished my Billy Bookcase makeover a long time ago and the final results are not dramatically different from the work in progress photos I already showed you.
Here is the before:
Now here is the after…
Of all my projects around the house, this is probably one of the easiest and most frugal. All I did was add some trim against the face of the bookcases and a piece of board on top. The board is actually primed particle board shelving I found at Home Depot.
For most, the hardest part of this makeover project would probably be finding the right shade of white paint to match the Ikea bookcases. Thankfully Ashli and her husband Lee of Mini Manor blog have also done several Billy Bookcase makeovers and had previously shared the paint colour they used – Martha Stewart TALC. I bought a small test pot at Home Depot and that was more than enough for the trim and top of my bookcase unit. The paint is not an exact match but it is very close.
Speaking of paint, for a brief moment I considered giving the entire bookcase unit the Paris Grey treatment like my little French table. Unfortunately, my daughter’s room is quite dark so I opted to keep the bookcases white.
So, not the most dramatic project but definitely shows how you can customize big box products with something as simple like a bit of trim.
